Books You Should Be Reading In Isolation

All this time in our apartment and I have FINALLY got my teeth into my nerd-worthy book collection! I wanted to share with you some of my most recent favourites, I have found reading hugely calming during this uncertain time. I highly recommend taking the time to read a few.

Below I have rated and reviewed my recent top favourites.

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins (10/10). American Dirt is about a Mother and young son fleeing corruption and gang violence in Mexico. This story BLEW MY MIND, I have been recommending it to all of my girlfriends. From the very start you are hooked into an action packed story line and the suspense will leave you never wanting to put the book down. Not only is it beautifully written, it also sheds light on many issues that are still occurring to this day.

Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens (9/10). Where The Crawdads Sing is based on the North Carolina coast in 1969. A mysterious girl is said to live alone in the Marsh and after a mysterious murder we are led on an adventure of suspense, betrayal and love. A truly beautiful book!

Seven Signs Of Life by Aoife Abbey (9/10). If you have read the popular book “This is Going To Hurt” and enjoyed it as much as I did – you are going to love this book.  This book takes a look inside life as a Doctor on the Intensive Care Unit and all that comes with it. This book is honest and inspiring and I highly recommend.

You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay (8/10). Louise Hay is one of my favourite inspirtational speakers, she is no longer with us but like Wayne Dyer and so many others, their words live on in us all.

The book is a mix of affirmations, text and exercises. Some of the advise given is for those with more extreme situations, she actually mentions that some parts may apply to one reader and not to the other, which I found true for me. However there are some brilliant tips and answers to help us control our negative thoughts, take back our life and live it to its full potential. I have highlighted and scribbled all over my copy of the book, as well as skipped pages or chapters that didn’t apply to me or what I was going through. The information that I found worked for me, really does work. It is beautifully written and at parts, like therapy through a book. I have recently purchased another book by Louise called The Power Is Within You which I am excited to start.

Current Reading: The Hungry Brain, Outsmarting the Instincts that Make us Overeat by Stephan J. Guyenet, PhD. This is not a diet book, but instead a book that provide cutting edge neuroscience and research that explains why we eat like we do and how to outsmart bad habits.  It is SO informative, I am loving it and it is exciting to learn new things!

Take a little time each day to sit and just be, read a book, or learn something new! My favourite time to read is first thing in the morning. Before I open my phone I make a hot coffee and read a few pages. Before I go to bed at night I switch my phone to airplane mode and read a few more pages – it really helps improve my quality of sleep too!

I will update every few weeks.

Stay safe and healthy.

We will be okay.
